Weekend Adventures – fANNEtastic food | Registered Dietitian Blog
Hi guys! As you know, the big event of our weekend was running the Marine Corps 10k yesterday morning! I’ll be back with a full race recap tomorrow (in the meantime, check out my Instagram for some race pictures). For now, let’s chat about the rest of the weekend! We kicked off our Friday night with tacos.
They were so delicious I went back for one more! Toppings included peppers and onions, ground chicken with Mexican spices and black beans mixed in, regular black beans, cilantro, cheese, avocado, tomatoes, salsa, and jalapenos. Mmmmm.
I enjoyed the leftovers in grain bowl form with arugula and brown rice for lunch on Saturday.
It was rainy most of the day on Saturday so a good day to stay home! I did treat myself to a yoga class around lunchtime but other than that we just kicked it at our place with the little one. My friend Ashley came over in the morning to hang out for a bit, and then in the afternoon I got motivated and (finally) went through the hot mess that was my closet and dresser. Matt decided to do the same thing so we just let Riese crawl back and forth between us upstairs and explore the clothes on the floor – she was quite intrigued by it all. I ended up with four massive trash bags full of clothes to donate – it felt good to get things more organized and to get rid of stuff that doesn’t fit that well anymore or that I just never wear. I still need to go through all my fitness clothes but this was a really good start, and now I have my summer stuff put away and my winter stuff out too.

Matt went out to dinner with some buddies on Saturday night, so after getting Riese to bed I kicked it on the couch and had a simple tuna sandwich while watching TV. I wasn’t in the mood to cook so this was perfect – simple and fast but filling. I made the tuna salad by mixing tuna, avocado, and dijon mustard.
After the race on Sunday morning, Matt and I took Riese out to brunch! We hit up Green Pig Bistro in Clarendon, and I had the shrimp and grits with a poached egg. It was really good, although I liked Matt’s pulled pork huevos rancheros better. 😉
Matt and I went over to a friend’s place for a little parent + baby play date yesterday afternoon and had some drinks and lots of cheese, crackers, hummus, and salami, so by the time we came home and got Riese to bed we weren’t super hungry so we just shared a big salad. Simple and easy!
I was so wiped last night after the early morning and a longer run than I’m used to – I was fast asleep by 9:15, which was good because I had an early morning yoga date this morning! My friend Ashley is in town visiting from the west coast, and we met up for yoga + breakfast. It was great to catch up with her – I wish she still lived here! Yoga felt amazing on my tight legs and hips, and breakfast hit the spot. I had avocado toast with bacon added for good measure, and we also shared a blueberry lemon ricotta scone (so good). Breakfast was at Northside Social and the pretty heart lattes were grabbed on the way there at Detour Coffee!
I’ve got a jam packed day of AnneTheRD client meetings and lots of writing to get done… but before I go, for those of you running the NYC Marathon this coming weekend, have you seen the awesome Brooks NYC Marathon themed shoes?! (
